I have a little chicken problem. I really love chickens, but only certain depictions of chickens. I'm not into "country" chickens or "traditional" chickens. I like nutty chickens.

Whatever. Boys.

This was my first painting in the "Hello" series. It was inspired partially by my friend Andrew's daughter Thandie (she loves robots), and by the song "Robot Parade" by They Might Be Giants.

I wanted to paint a very simple, iconic, yet imperfect depiction of a child-friendly robot.

This painting was inspired by my love of the absurd, and my obsession with ninjas. I mean, who doesn't love ninjas?

I love the fact that this ninja, who is typically so good at being invisible, is completely busted against this bright yellow background.

The black paint I used to paint his hood is a very shiny black acrylic, which is a lot of fun to work with.

Like most meat-eaters, I have a deep, unhealthy love of bacon. My favorite bacon is Niman Ranch Applewood Smoked Thick Cut bacon, and the bacon I get from the Amish guys at the farmers market is a dang close second.

I really like the startled look on the pig's face; he cracks me up.

I made this piece in honor of Joe Trainor's 37th birthday. Joe is one of my dearest friends who also happens to be an über-talented piano player and singer. He fronts The Joe Trainor Trio, and in our circle of friends, we all call him "Rockstar."

You should check out the Joe Trainor Trio at http://www.joetrainortrio.com.

I painted this for my favorite Jewish ninja, Jeremy.

When Jeremy was a kid, he was 100% convinced he was going to grow up to be a ninja. When he got a little older, his ankle made a harmless but loud cracking sound when he walked down stairs, so he had to abandon his dream. Sad, isn't it? He managed to become a super-successful author, so I guess it all worked out.

I originally envisioned this piece with the title of "Hello, Actor" but I liked the different interpretations “Hello, Drama” afforded.

I put many thick layers of yellow paint on the "stage" portion of the painting so that I could subtly etch floorboards into it. I marked the center of the spotlight with an X (in red tape, of course), just like we do in the theater so actors know where to stand.

The black paint on this canvas is a very shiny acrylic and is wonderful to work with.

History behind this painting: If you drive to the Philly airport from the south and you take 95N into the old airport entrance (Exit 10, Cargo City), you will see a pond on the right-hand side. In the middle of the pond there is a rock / pylon, and there is always a single bird sitting on top of it. Doesn't matter the time of day or the amount of traffic, you can count on that bird. I always look for it, and it brings me total joy to see the thing sitting there.

Sometimes there are several birds, and they are almost always facing the same direction, and it slays me.

There have been very few occasions where the bird must have been off with his buddies and there was no bird. I was tremendously let down and wondered if it was a sign that my plane would be delayed.

My life involves a lot of traveling, and I drive past this bird a many times per month. I text-message key individuals as to the status of the bird; this is called the Bird Notification Service. On mornings when I'm flying too early for most mortals, I will post this very critical message via Twitter.

One time my beau, Matt, was picking me up from the airport and he was waiting for me to get my bags before driving up to the terminal. He sent me a text message saying, "I'll be waiting where there is sometimes a bird." I almost died laughing.

So there you have it.

This image was commissioned by my good friend Jenn. Her cat Angus is pretty rad, and he's got some unusual markings and freckles around his nose. I never knew cats could get freckles, but there you have it.

Jenn gave me several photos to work from, and I snapped a few others just to make sure I could capture his speckles and coloring.

If you click here, you can see a picture of the real Angus next to his painting.
